Paul, an eighteen-year-old high school senior, is devasted by the sudden loss of his parents in a car accident. Bereaved and left penniless, he takes over his father’s business where he stumbles on evidence of that his parents weren’t exactly what they appeared to be. When he asks his friend Simon, a brilliant data scientist and FBI agent, to help him with an encrypted file on his father’s computer, Simon starts to wonder about the nature of the parents’ business. He is certain that the key to their secrets lies in the encrypted file. Meanwhile at the Russian Embassy in Washington DC, an officer of their foreign intelligence service is keeping a close eye on Paul.
Suddenly Paul must navigate in a world fraught with intrigue and danger—electronic surveillance bugs, cybertheft, mysterious accidents, and arson—to discover his parents’ true purpose.
